Itaim Bibi

A Sé (contração de 'Sede') era o centro comercial de São Paulo até meados do século XX, quando esta função foi transferida para a região do Anhangabaú e depois da República (ver postagens anteriores)
Se São Paulo é o coração financeiro do Brasil, a Av. Paulista (ver postagens anteriores) é o coração financeiro de São Paulo, sobretudo a partir dos anos 80 e final do século passado.
Neste novo século, com a 'Paulista saturada', sempre mais para o oeste (Anhangabaú a oeste da Sé, República a oeste do Anhangabaú, Paulista ao sudoeste da República, Itaim Bibi a oeste da Paulista), a expansão continua no Itaim Bibi, bairro que atualmente abriga os mais novos e luxuosos prédios comericiais.
São Paulo sendo a capital financeira do país assevera a realidade social do país, tendo o 'centro pobre' (com os mendigos, prédios velhos mas também os maiores patrimônios culturais da cidade), o centro rico (região da Paulista) e o centro mais rico ainda (o luxuoso Itaim Bibi), "separados" assim como a população da cidade e do país, apesar de nos últimos anos o padrão de vida e da economia do Brasil progredirem a passos largos e invejáveis.

Itaim Bibi é um nome de origem indígena.

Sé was São Paulo's commercial center until the half of the XX century, when this function was transferred to Anhagabaú and República after that (see previews posts).
If São Paulo is the Financial Heart of Brazil, Paulista Ave. (see preview posts) is the Financial Heart of São Paulo, mainly in the 80's and in the end of this last century.
In this new century, with Paulista Ave. region already full, always Westwards (as Anhagabaú is westwards from Sé, República is westwards from Anhangabaú, Paulista region is southwestwards from República and Itaim Bibi is westwards from Paulista), the expansion continues in Itaim Bibi neighborhood, which hosts the newest 'most de luxe' commercial buildings. São Paulo being the country's financial capital shows the social reality in this country, having the 'poor downtown' (with the buglars and old constructions, 'though also the great historical architecture), the 'wealthy downtown' (Paulista region) and the 'brand new wealthy de luxe downtown' (Itaim Bibi), all very well separated as the social classes, although I may say in the last few years Brazil's economy and way of life have progressed, fastly even in global levels analysis.

Itaim Bibi is a native american origins name, not portuguese/european related, like lots of other names in Brazil (as it also happens in the USA).
